What Does this semen Analysis Test Result Mean?
A 42 year old male with a history of proven fertility, an unremarkable medical history was requested for a sperm analysis. Several (four) semen analyses that have revealed considerable variability in terms of sperm concentration (12 million per mL, 26 milion per ml, 31 million per mL, and 94 million per mL). The semen collections were all thought to be complete and results are entirely normal. The 5th sperm wa “produced” by manual ejaculation int a clean container about 90 minutes prior to evaluation n the laboratory. Semen analysis reveals the following: • Volume: 6.5 Ml • Liquification: upon receipt in the lab • Teratospermia (mostly Globozoospermia) • 30 million sperm per Ml • 50% motile • Grade 4 1. Given the result, list the abnormal parameter and explain why. 2. What could be the possible cause for the abnormalities? 3. In this case, are the result valid? Defend your answer. 4. Give the significance of the true abnormality/ies above in the relation to fertility. 5. What possible treatment may be done?

The interpretation of semen analysis is as follows:
The semen volume of 6.5 ml is within normal range.
The semen sample is expected to liquefy st the time receipt to sample since it was received after 90 minutes of collection.
Sperm count of 30 million/ ml is also normal.
50% of sperms show grade 4 motility. Grade 4 motility is normal and progressive forward motility. This is a normal semen parameter.
The abnormality in your semen is teratospermia.
Teratospermia refers to presence of abnormally shaped sperms.
Most of the sperms have globozoospermia or globular sperm head.
These sperms with abnormal morphology may interfere with fertilization and thus assisted reproductive techniques may have to be followed fo successful conception.
Thus, you may have problem with conception since your sperms have abnormal morphology as per this report.
You need to consult an urologist for management and guidance regarding assisted reproductive techniques.
